| Why We Need Program Evaluation |

Program evaluation involves a systematic collection of information about the activities, characteristics, and outcomes of programs. It is used for the purpose of making judgments about the program, improving program effectiveness and/or making informed recommendations regarding future program implementation. There are five main reasons why government officials should official evaluation programs, the reasons include:
- Understand, verify or increase the impact of products or services on customers or clients.
- Identify program strengths and weaknesses. Improve delivery mechanisms to be more efficient and less costly.
- Understand Execution - Verify that you're doing what you think you're doing.
- Facilitate management's really thinking about what their program is all about, including its goals.
- Produce data or verify results that can be used with the public.
- Produce valid comparisons between similar programs.
- Fully examine and describe effective programs for duplication elsewhere.
